How To Get Free is a multimedia project that creatively examines the different Afro-religious practices that permeate the Caribbean and more specifically, Jamaica. As a Jamaican living in the States, I have constantly found myself going through the cultural archives of my country to investigate and find the tools my ancestors armed themselves with through trials of rebellion, unrest, and warfare. This project is the culmination of years worth of research into the history of practices like obeah, pocomania, and kumina. Through the use of archival images, collaged illustrations, and creative text, I create a publication that is an offering to the archive of these practices and veneration for their existence.
