This film focuses on the LOW Museum, located in Atlanta’s Old Fourth Ward. The gallery was started by three artists (Pastiche, Theodore & Jordan) who turned their residence into an exhibition space that positions itself opposite the city’s High Museum of Art. The LOW is dedicated to underground art scenes in the city, and provides a nurturing and encouraging space for many young artists to showcase their work.
In the film, which I co-directed with Arkia Jahani, LOW founders visit WRAS 88.5 college radio station to discuss their mission, and we attend the opening of a show of Stubbs’s work, a collection of interactive sculptural installations made from found objects.
The LOW founders are taking the rest of the year off from running the museum full-time, to pursue their own art careers. Lumumba is currently in New York to participate in Art Chopped at the Bruce High Quality Foundation. Jordan, having been awarded a studio space through MINT’s Leap Year program, is focusing more on his individual art practice, and Theodore is traveling to Portland. We’re told the gallery will be back in full operation in 2016 with a slightly new direction.
