Irene Yamamoto Arts Writers Fellowship for Emerging Writers of Color

The National Center for the Preservation of Democracy at the Japanese American National Museum (NCPD@JANM) presents the Irene Yamamoto Arts Writers Fellowship. This year’s inaugural fellowship provides two $5,000 unrestricted awards to promising writers of color who are focused on art criticism and/or reporting about the visual, performing, or media arts. The Yamamoto Fellowship recognizes that writers of color have knowledge and experiences that differ from dominant Eurocentric ones, and that their perspectives can give art produced by marginalized communities the depth of attention and consideration it deserves. The Yamamoto Fellowship encourages arts writers of color to continue writing about art from their own cultural and political perspectives in order to enrich and broaden arts writing as a practice and profession. Eligible applicants must reside in the United States, be at least 18 years of age, identify as a member of a community with ancestry in one of the original peoples of Africa, Asia, the Americas, Oceania, or Pacific Islands, and have two to five years of demonstrated publication experience, which may include a blog or self-publishing.


Creator Labs Photo Fund 2023

The 2023 Creator Labs Photo Fund is an initiative providing financial support to encourage artists at formative moments in their careers. Started in 2021, this second season of the Creator Labs Photo Fund will support a greater selection of artists, with grants provided to 30 artists for new work created in the past three years. Thirty selected artists will be awarded a prize of $6,000 each, and will be featured on aperture.org and across Aperture’s social media channels. All artists applying for the Creator Labs Photo Fund must be 18 years of age or older, and currently living in the United States.


2023 CINTAS Fellowships

CINTAS Fellowships acknowledge creative accomplishments and encourage excellence in architecture & design, creative writing, music composition and the visual arts. Eligibility is limited to artists of Cuban citizenship or direct descent. Applications are reviewed by panels of qualified members from each artistic discipline. The Board of the CINTAS Foundation, Inc., awards fellowships based on the recommendations of the panels. CINTAS fellows are free to pursue their artistic activities as indicated in their application. The fellowships are not awarded to performing artists. Fellowships are not awarded more than twice to the same person. Second awards are granted only to candidates demonstrating outstanding artistic development. 

Fellowships are awarded annually for the disciplines selected and announced on the website for each year. The amount of the fellowship is $20,000 currently. The award is considered taxable income by the Internal Revenue Service of the United States. 


@ATLFILMPARTY

@ATLFILMPARTY is a local film competition with a goal of transforming ATL’s film industry into a dedicated community. For each cycle, a seasonal jury of film industry professionals will select 3-8 top films from the submission pool to be showcased at the event. The films will be edited in a loop, and screened in a venue ITP. All attendees are given an individual ballot to vote for their favorite film after viewing them on loop during the party. The winning filmmaker receives a cash grant ($500) and mentorship provided by the Southern Documentary Fund, and all finalists receive a framed award. Filmmakers submitting to ATL Film Party must be raised or based in Atlanta, Georgia to participate in the competition.


Residenza Lago Scuro Fall 2023 Residency
Cremona, Italy

Residenza Lago Scuro’s 10-day residency program, from August 15-25, 2023, will take place at Cascina Lago Scuro in Cremona, Italy and is now open for applications. This will be the third cohort of Residenza Lago Scuro since the inaugural gathering in 2019. Residenza Lago Scuro is a self-directed Interdisciplinary residency offering creatives the chance to explore their practice, exchange ideas, and make work while living on, and learning about, a beautiful regenerative farm in Northern Italy. The program emphasizes the exchange between practitioners of the cultural and agricultural arts, and the value that is created when different minds and like-hearts come together and collaborate in a space dedicated to nature, nourishment, and creativity. The program fee is $850, which includes sleeping arrangements, prepared breakfast and lunch, and fresh ingredients for dinner, offsite activities, as well as pick-up and drop-off from the Cremona train station. Residents are responsible for their own international transportation. Together, Residenza Lago Scuro hopes to celebrate the overlaps of art, design, education, sustainability, food, agriculture, community, ingenuity, and craft.

The Andy Warhol Foundation Arts Writer Grant

The Andy Warhol Foundation Arts Writers Grant supports emerging and established writers who write about contemporary visual art. Ranging from $15,000 to $50,000 in three categories—articles, books, and short-form writing—the grants support projects addressing both general and specialized art audiences, from short reviews for magazines and newspapers to in-depth scholarly studies. The program also supports art writing that engages criticism through interdisciplinary methods and experiments with literary styles. As long as a writer meets the eligibility and publishing requirements, they can apply. Due to legal constraints, only U.S. citizens, permanent residents of the United States, and holders of O-1 visas 25 years and older are eligible to apply.


Materia Prima: Call for Entry

The Materia Prima Juried Call for Entry Exhibition is open to all artists currently residing in the Southeastern United States. Artists are invited to submit works in all media that explore the theme of MATERIALITY. ARTS Southeast is seeking work that considers materials in new or novel ways, that engages the senses and expands our understanding of media as material.  Materiality can infer many things—time, space, labor, the artist’s history, home and more. Submissions are encouraged of are artworks that introduce the jury to new ways of understanding and interacting with the world around us. In Materia Prima, the medium is the message and works in any medium will be considered for this exhibition. Materia Prima will be on display in the Main Gallery at Sulfur Studios from July 7th – August 12th, 2023. This call is open to all artists in the Southeastern Region of the United States, this includes: Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, North Carolina, South Carolina, Texas and Virginia.

This call has a $35 application fee for three images. ARTS Southeast Supporters pay only $25.


The Eliza Moore Fellowship for Artistic Excellence

The Eliza Moore Fellowship for Artistic Excellence is awarded annually to one outstanding, early-career artist who is developing new works that address plants, gardens, or landscapes in the broad sense.  This award is open to visual artists, literary artists, dancers, and musicians. The award includes a $10,000 individual grant and requires a 2 – 5 week stay at Oak Spring. While at OSGF, the Fellow will be able to meet with staff, explore our 700-acre landscape and our efforts in sustainable land management, and visit our rare book library that holds over 19,000 objects, including many examples of botanical art. Eligible applicants must be early-career artists not enrolled in an undergraduate degree program in 2024. We will consider individuals with a proven track-record of professionalism, but who are yet under-recognized, as early-career.


On::View Artist in Residency : Fall 2023 Session

The ON::VIEW Artist Residency at Sulfur Studios provides a free, high visibility studio space for an artist to complete a new project, to continue an in-progress endeavor, or to conduct research exploring conceptual, material, performative, and social practices. The studio’s large windows look out onto Bull Street, the district’s main thoroughfare, allowing the artists’ work to be on view to the community at all times. Sulfur Studios’ visitors and passersby on the sidewalk witness the artists’ process as it unfolds in real time, seeing all the steps involved from concept to final execution. Community events like workshops, performances, public art projects and artist talks, offer creative ways to interact with the public. The ON::View Residency supports artists from across the globe, working in all media.

This call has a $50 application fee.


The Working Artist Project: Call for Submissions 2023/2024

The Working Artist Project (WAP) is a year long fellowship program facilitated by The Museum of Contemporary Art of Georgia (MOCA GA). The program was created by MOCA GA to champion established visual artists of merit who reside in the Atlanta metropolitan region. Each year, a guest curator selects three of our best and brightest to receive a solo exhibition, promotion, a studio apprentice (in support of emerging artists in the Atlanta Community), a full-color catalogue, and a $15,000 stipend to create work over the course of the year. Applicants must both currently live in, and have studio space (within your home or commercial space) in the following counties: Cherokee, Clayton, Cobb, DeKalb, Douglas, Fayette, Forsyth, Fulton, Gwinnett, Henry and Rockdale, and remain an Atlanta-based artist for the length of the grant period, until the exhibition’s end.


Spring 2023 Innovate Grants for Art + Photo

Innovate Grant supports artists and photographers through quarterly $1,800.00 grants. The grant was created out of the frustration of applying to grants with time-consuming requirements. These lengthy applications took valuable time and energy away from making new work. Countless hours were always sacrificed in either writing artist statements, crafting project proposals and getting letters of recommendation. Two $1,800.00 grants are awarded each quarter, to one Visual Artist and one Photographer. In addition, six honorable mentions (3 in art and 3 in photo), will be featured on the Innovate Grant website and join a growing community of vibrant and talented artists. Innovate Grant’s commitment extends beyond the grant cycle by promoting the work of selected winners and honorable mentions into the future. Visual Artists and Photographers 18 years and older, from all around the world, US + International, are eligible to apply. All media and genres are accepted.

This call has a $35-$50 application fee.


The Laura Patricia Calle Grant

The Laura Patricia Calle Grant is designed to honor our dear friend Laura Patricia Calle’s life, hard work, and immeasurable passion for equality for all people and the manifestation of diverse cultural expression in our public spaces. For the 6th annual grant, artists and art collectives are invited to present proposals for a mural to be painted in the Metro Atlanta region (as defined by Atlanta Regional Commission). The mural should inform and promote awareness on the subject(s) of: Social Equality, Feminism, Immigrants’ Rights, LGBTQIA+ Rights, and Cultural Diversity. The $20,000 grant is all-inclusive, meaning that the awardee is expected to lead the entirety of the mural production, including but not limited to securing a permanent wall location, covering artist fees, hiring assistants and media teams, and acquiring materials and equipment. Living Walls is available to provide support, but the selected project is expected to be artist-led. Artists can apply individually or as a team but must reside in the United States.


Loghaven Artist Residency 2024-2025
Knoxville, Tennessee

Loghaven Artist Residency’s mission is to serve artists by providing them with a transformative residency experience and continued post-residency support. The residency is located on ninety acres of woodland in Knoxville, Tennessee. Artists live in five historic log cabins that have been both rehabilitated and modernized to create an ideal setting for reflection and work, and they have access to new, purpose-built studio space. All Loghaven Fellows are awarded stipends to support the creation of new work during the residency.  Artists must be at least twenty-one years old and live more than 120 miles away from Knoxville. This distance requirement is designed to ensure that artists are able to be fully immersed in their residency experience and can take advantage of the retreat-style environment.

Art for Change Prize 2023

Drawing upon the success of last year, which saw 2,500 entries from over 130 countries worldwide, the free-to-enter Art for Change Prize aims to make art, culture, and creativity accessible to everyone. It celebrates emerging artistic talent and serves to highlight and stimulate dialogue around visual arts as a medium for positive global and social change. With M&C Saatchi’s deep experience in behavior change, this year’s prize invites emerging artists from around the world to creatively respond to the theme of ‘Regeneration’. Artists are invited to create new stories of a liveable future and motivate people to do what it takes to be a driving force for the change we need. A total prize fund of £20,000 will be split between six regional winners, five to receive £2,000 each and one overall winner to receive £10,000. All artists will exhibit their winning works in a dedicated exhibition at Saatchi Gallery, a recognized authority in contemporary art, where the overall winner will be announced. Applications will be invited through an open call online and the prize is available to emerging artists based in the following M&C Saatchi key global regions UK, Europe, Americas, Asia, Australia, Middle East & Africa. A winner from each location will be decided by the judging panel before a grand jury selects the overall winner.


Full-Time Faculty Positions at UGA Lamar Dodd School of Art

The Lamar Dodd School of Art at the University of Georgia is currently seeking applicants for a full-time faculty position in graphic/visual communication design who will teach and coordinate a variety of pre-professional student development initiatives, including a design studio. The Graphic Design program at the Lamar Dodd School of Art is a high-demand, selective undergraduate major within the Franklin College of Arts & Sciences. The ideal candidate is an established graphic design professional who can bring relevant industry knowledge and experience to the classroom. The Academic Professional position is a permanent, non-tenure track faculty rank eligible for promotion, with 12-month appointment and anticipated start date of August 2023. The Verdant Fund

An expansion of the Warhol Foundation’s Regional Re-granting program, the Verdant Fund supports creative practice born of and within Alabama. The fund’s goal is to reach a broad range of artists across all geographic areas of the state. Verdant Fund hopes to extend immediate relief to artists, aid in artist retention in the state, and deepen the network among people in creative practice. The Verdant fund will award grants of up to $7,000, to disperse a total of $60,000 per year. This grant is for non-traditional public-facing projects that take place in the state of Alabama, and support visual artists in the State. Verdant Fund supports individual artists, artist-curators, collectives, or collaboratives, so long as the lead artist resides in the State. 


Call for Teaching Artists for Summer Camps 2023 at Space One Eleven

Space One Eleven is offering paid teaching positions to artists with previous teaching experience for its 2023 summer art camps. Summer art camps are for (rising) 2nd through 12th graders and meet for 1 or 2 week sessions from 9am to 3pm, Monday through Friday beginning June 5th and ending July 28th, 2023. Payment for teaching is $750-$875 per week. Each camp is limited to between 10 and 15 students.


Eyebeam Center for the Future of Journalism

Artists and artist-journalist teams can apply for grants to support topical work. Those with longer-term, research-intensive projects are also eligible. Grants range from $500–$5,000 per project.


Foundation for Contemporary Arts Emergency Grant

These monthly grants range from $500–$3,000, with the average amount being $1,700. Visual and performing artists whose work has a contemporary, experimental nature and who have a US Tax ID Number can apply.


Nancy Norton Tomasko Scholarship

The Nancy Norton Tomasko Scholarship fund is dedicated to providing financial support for individuals wishing to learn more about the book arts. The Center will award scholarships covering the full tuition and materials for one course per individual. Awardees are selected based on financial need and proof of having satisfied the prerequisites for the desired course. Please fill out and submit the following form at least three weeks before the start date of the workshop to be considered for financial assistance.
