The Strange: Spring 2020 Decelerator

The Strange’s Decelerator is a retreat/residency hybrid offering pioneering creative practitioners the chance to slow down and refocus on their work’s vision and impact from a beautiful location in New York’s Catskill mountains. This April and May, one-week residencies will be offered to a select group of artists, activists, journalists, scientists, designers, organizers, educators, entrepreneurs, and others whose work fits the “Earth 1.0” theme by centering environmental sustainability, climate justice, and healing for the natural world. 


The Neon Museum Artist in Residence

The Neon Museum National Artist Residency (AIR) is designed to expand the interpretive potential of the museum collection while providing artists the opportunity to create new work in an unconventional setting. The residency includes a public program to engage the community and museum visitors, while providing exposure to new artists and a fresh perspective on the collection. The selected artist, working in the fields of digital, performance or visual arts, will be sponsored and supported by the Neon Museum and will reside in Las Vegas, Nevada, for eight weeks over the summer.


University of Arkansas Clay Break Residency

Location: Fayetteville, AR
Deadline: February 15

Clay Break is a ceramics residency tailored to artists whose primary training and focus lie outside of ceramics. Three artists will participate in this eight week residency running May 11 – July 10, 2020. A furnished studio will be provided, along with materials, kiln firings, and a modest stipend. UARK Ceramics faculty and graduate assistants will be available to help familiarize residents with basic processes and help guide them through technical problems as they arise. Artists are responsible for arranging their travel and any additional materials not normally stocked by the studio. Dry materials, studio glazes, and kiln firings are included in the residency.


Vermont Studio Center Fellowships

Location: Johnson, VT

At each of the center’s three annual deadlines (February 15, June 15, and October 1), fellowship offerings change. In addition to some donor-driven awards with special eligibility requirements, there are always a number of general, merit-based VSC fellowships for which all applicants are considered. Portfolios and manuscripts are reviewed blind by a panel of professional artists and writers, respectively. Applicants will be notified as to the status of their applications eight to twelve weeks after the deadline has closed. 


Atlanta Photography Group: Portfolio 2020

Atlanta Photography Group (APG) invites photographers world-wide to enter images using any photographic process for our upcoming juried exhibition, “Portfolio 2020”. This exhibition features strong, cohesive bodies of work. The Juror for “Portfolio 2020” is Dr. Sarah Kennel, Photography Curator for the High Museum of Art, in Atlanta, GA. All exhibiting artists are be eligible for the 2020 APG/ Museum Purchase Award of $2500, which is slated for placement into the High Museum’s permanent collection.


Creative Capital Open Application

Creative Capital supports innovative and adventurous artists across the country through funding, counsel, and career development services. Our pioneering venture philanthropy approach helps artists working in all creative disciplines realize their visions and build sustainable practices. Creative Capital provides each funded project with up to $50,000 in direct funding and career development services valued at more than $50,000, for a total commitment of over $100,000 per project. The application for the Creative Capital Awards is open to artists, collectives, and collaborations working in all disciplines through 4 pm ET on February 29, 2020.


Climate in Crisis Residencies at the Studio in the Woods

Location: New Orleans, LA

These residencies invite artists to examine the severity of the climate crisis and be agents of change to guide our collective understanding, response, and vision as we shape our shared future. Residencies are 6 weeks and will take place between September 2020 and May 2021. Residencies will provide artists with time, space, scholarship and staff support to foster critical thinking and creation of new works. The call is open to artists of all disciplines who have demonstrated an established dialogue with environmental and culturally related issues and a commitment to seeking and plumbing new depths. We ask artists to describe in detail how the region will affect their work, to propose a public component to their residency and to suggest ways in which they will engage with the local community.


B20: Wiregrass Biennial

Location: Dothan, AL

The Wiregrass Museum of Art invites artists living in the South to submit works for B20: Wiregrass Biennial, a juried competition. Eligible states include Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia. The exhibition is open to submissions of innovative and progressive works of any medium including installation, new media, and performance-based work. Accepted works are eligible for one $1000 award for People’s Choice and one $1000 award for Judge’s Choice. There will also be one $1,000 award for an Alabama artist.


Rhizome Microgrant Program

The microgrant program awards $500–$1,500 to proposals with a compelling vision for net art, which considers political radicalization and the internet.


Blackacre Writing Residency

Location: Louisville, KY
Deadline: rolling

The writer receives a $200 honorarium, and resides, for 1 – 2 weeks, in a furnished house, on the grounds, offering all of the modern domestic necessities.


Foundation for Contemporary Arts Emergency Grant

Deadline: Rolling Basis

The Foundation for Contemporary Arts offers Emergency Grants between $200 and $2,500 for visual and performing artists. They review applications once a month, so you can quickly take advantage of momentum or solve any budget errors.


Gottlieb Emergency Grant Program

Deadline: Rolling Basis

This emergency grant provides financial assistance to painters, printmakers, and sculptors whose needs are the result of an unforeseen incident, and who lack the resources to meet that situation.
