About Ayanna
Ayanna Jolivet Mccloud (she/her) is an artist and environmental advocate. She creates art about geography, mapping, materiality, and nature, and has participated in exhibitions and residencies throughout the Americas, including the U.S., Caribbean, and Latin America. Her work often centers on recalling connections between African Americans and the environment. As Executive Director of Bayou City Waterkeeper, Ayanna leads a collaborative vision for water justice in greater Houston through wetland protection, urban water management, flood mitigation, and water quality advocacy.
Ayanna was recently named a 2024 Catalyst Awardee by Rachel’s Network. Her work was featured in a recent solo exhibition, New Suns, at Lawndale Art Center and is on view in a group exhibition, River on Fire, at DiverseWorks in Houston, Texas.
