Following two years of substantial growth, Burnaway’s Board of Directors voted on Monday to elect Atlanta-based executive and artist Melissia Fernander as Board Chair and New York/Atlanta-based technology executive Tracy B. YoungLincoln as the organization’s Vice Chair, effective July 1, 2020. The organization’s Secretary, Nancy Hooff, and Treasurer, Tom Bruno, both renewed their terms for two more years.

This change of board leadership comes after an exceptional period of expansion and professionalization of Burnaway spearheaded by Atlanta-based executive and art collector Jessica White, who has served as the organization’s Board Chair since Spring of 2018, and Atlanta-based consultant Guliz Kavuncuoglu, who served as the organization’s Vice Chair since June 2019. Mrs. White led the hiring of new artistic and executive leadership for the organization in Fall of 2018, successfully enacted and achieved the goals of a two-year strategic plan, and saw the organization’s operating budget nearly double and readership increase by 25% during her tenure. The new Executive Board leadership will focus on diversifying the board’s regional representation, craft and adopt a new strategic plan, and steer Burnaway for a strong, sustainable, equitable, and inclusive future.
