The Georgia Institute of Technology has named A. Madison Cario its new director for the Office of the Arts, effective August 4. Cario will oversee the Arts@Tech operations and programming, which includes management of the Ferst Center, a music and dance series, the university’s artist residency program, and the commission and installation of art on campus.

In the press statement, Cario says: “I cannot imagine a more exhilarating and inspiring place to be than here, right in the middle of the intersection of arts and technology,” Cario said. “With creative competency essential to global competitiveness in the 21st century, Arts@Tech is, simply put, the right idea at the right time.”

For the past seven years, Cario has served in a number of different roles at the University of Pennsylvania’s Annenberg Center for Performing Arts. As director of Special Artistic Initiatives and more recently as the director of Student Engagement, Cario created programs incorporating non-traditional performance space and artist collaborations to elicit stronger student involvement. She also adapted the “By Local” programming series to bring local artists to the campus.
