stephanie s. cortés
i’m steph (they/them, elle/nosotres), a queer interdisciplinary borikua artist and agricultore jíbare from and based in Borikén (also colonially known as puerto rico).
i’m interested in using different mediums of storytelling to practice remembering, studying, honoring and building from/upon ancestral solidarities and dreams that have survived colonization for time immemorial. especially highlighting and connecting with caribbean and latin american communities from abya yala to turtle island, weaving stories around the world towards collective liberation. from taking photos to writing prose, poetry and memorias – to directing, shooting, producing, editing videos – to farming n composting in community, to popular education and making things with my hands – i’m here to cultivate deep curiosity and tender attention.
mi trabajo de amor focuses on (gender) identity/patería and culture, social and food justice, seed stories and seed saving, oral storytelling, poetry, herbal medicines, composting, queer ecology, honoring arawak n taíno ancestors, community, imagination as practice, and more.
