Art dealer Susan Bridges is the winner of the Nexus Award, given by the Atlanta contemporary Art Center to “individuals who have made a profound contribution to contemporary visual art in Atlanta and beyond.”

She will be honored at a reception at the ACAC on May 6, 2014.

Bridges founded her gallery Whitespace in 2006, in her Inman Park home, after having organized temporary exhibitions around the city for years. Admired for her keen eye and warm personality, she has been a crucial supporter of Atlanta and regional artists. She also has served on the boards of Art Papers, BURNAWAY, Flux Projects, the Atlanta Preservation Center and other organizations.

In a press statement, ACAC director Stuart Horodner said of Bridges: “Her gallery whitespace continues to be a thoughtful and provocative space for art and she exhibits a wide range of emerging and established talents. She is also a tireless supporter of other arts organizations and initiatives. Susan is the first gallerist to win this award, and she is a shining example of commitment and generosity.”

Bridges is the sixth recipient of the award. Previous winners are Andrea Barnwell Brownlee and Jerry Cullum (2010), Louis Corrigan (2011), Lisa Cremin (2012), and Lucinda Bunnen (2013).
