Shannon Fitzgerald, executive director of the Rochester Art Center in Minnesota for the past three years, is moving to Orlando to lead the Mennello Museum of American Art, a city-owned museum, as well as the director of public art for the City of Orlando, a newly created position. She will assume both roles in September.
Fitzgerald was one of three judges for the recently awarded Hudgens Prize, a $50,000 award given to a Georgia artist by the Hudgens Center for the Arts in Duluth. This year’s winner was Bethany Colllins.
Fitzgerald’s husband, Glen Gentele, is already in Orlando, where he has been director of the Orlando Museum of Art since January 2013.
