NEW WORKS BY BRENDAN CARROLL, BEN STEELE AND ZUZKA VACLAVIK
MAY 6 TO JUNE 10
opening reception: Saturday, May 6 at 6pm
artist talk: Saturday, May 13 at 2pm
ABSTRACTS presents the work of three prominent Poem 88 artists, Brendan Carroll, Ben Steele and Zuzka Vaclavik. Non-objective and Objective Abstraction are at play in these paintings referencing gesture and color field, natural forms, quotidian objects, and signs; thus, in their rigorous study of painting, each artist embraces the hallmarks of modernism through their individual strategies. Their very distinctive approaches to abstraction create a palpable energy and vibration in relation to one another.
All three artists, who completed MFAs at MICA and UGA, respectively, have exhibited locally, nationally ad internationally. They, too, have participated in important artist residencies including fellowships at The Hambidge Center. All three have works in important private and public collections including the permanent collection of the High Museum of Art, and MOCA-Ga.
