It’s time for another Studio Soirée! This one will be at the Welch School of Art & Design at Georgia State University. The multi-floor, multi-disciplinary event invites the public into the studios of MFA students (future stars!) in Painting, Drawing, Printmaking, Ceramics, Textiles, Sculpture, Photography, and Graphic Design. You can see where it all begins!
You can mix and mingle with artists, and watch interactive demos, including textile dying, wheel throwing, and silk screen printing, as well as performance pieces. Bring your wallet! MFA & BFA students will be exhibiting and selling finished works in the lower studios, from prints to ceramic ware to paintings.
The Ernest G. Welch Gallery will also be open after hours for its final day of “Socially Engaged,” curated by Brenda Massie, and featuring works by Marilyn Minter, LaToya Ruby Frazier, Deborah Bright, Pixy Liao, Kerry Skarbakka, Cheryl Pope, and Georgia State alumna Christina Price Washington.
The event is part of GSU’s “Year of the Arts” celebrating the newly formed College of the Arts.
SAVE THE DATE: Another Soirée will be held in the spring at GSU’s recently opened Edgewood Sculpture Building, featuring food from the neighboring Sweet Auburn Market, live wood and metal shop demos, and a view of the sculpture studios, constructed by the MFAs themselves.
