We’re tickled pink over here at BURNAWAY! We’ve been selected by the National Endowment for the Arts to receive a $20,000 grant. We’re mighty grateful that the NEA sees value in what we do.
BURNAWAY’s grant is among the 970 grants totaling $26 million to be awarded in the Art Works category, which focuses on the creation of art that meets the highest standards of excellence, public engagement with diverse and excellent art, lifelong learning in the arts, and the strengthening of communities through the arts.
Our grant will be used to expand BURNAWAY’s editorial capacity and geographic reach. That means we’ll be able to produce more great content for your enjoyment, and from more places around the South. The grant will also facilitate a series of long-form articles with fair pay for the writers. Did you know that artists and writers work very hard, for many hours, for very little monetary reward, usually while holding down a day job? It ain’t easy, folks.
In anticipation of our award, BURNAWAY will begin to recruit more writers throughout the South and will issue a call for proposals for articles to appear in 2017.
