In recent years Dashboard Co-op has slowly built a reputation for their inventive pop-up shows and professional services for emerging artists. The exhibitions come in both varieties: wildly attended parties with paintings plus local bands as well as a remarkable number of sophisticated contemporary-art gems. Dashboard’s 2011 Ants and Grasshoppers, for example, combined the atmospherics of sound art, the storytelling sensibilities of Aesop, and an installation inspired by Bruce Nauman.

This morning the group announced their next round of artists who will appear in a “radical contemporary art exhibition” in downtown Atlanta in February 2013. The names belong to 12 creative individuals who will benefit from Dashboard’s programs in the coming year: Bethany Collins, Stephanie Dowda, Mike Black, Kelly O’Brien, Charlie Watts, Mike Stasny, Ben Coleman, Andrew Hammond, Pablo Gnecco, Heather Greenway, Luke Haynes, and Kyle Bravo.

The majority live in the Atlanta area, although their number includes one artist from New York and one from New Orleans (Haynes and Bravo, respectively). A collection of online portfolios and interviews give a glimpse into each artist’s personality and artistic style.

Here’s an excerpt from the press release:

Each year Dash selects a group of cutting-edge artists from Atlanta, New Orleans and New York. Online portfolios and interviews give these artist a platform to explain their process and intent, and display the work they feel best depicts their individual practice. Once all the tappety tap is over, everyone flies into town to transform a long-forgotten Atlanta space into a radical contemporary art exhibition. (This year’s space is 117,000 sq ft of forgotten-ness in Downtown ATL. See below for B O O M CITY exhibition info).

We proudly present…
