Zoetic Dance Ensemble premieres their next production, Undone, at Fabrefaction Theatre Company tonight, Thursday, October 13, 8-9:30PM (click here for tickets for performances on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday). The intimate theatre allows the dancers to explore relationships: Why do we need them, and what happens when they come undone? While photographing the final rehearsal last night, I was caught up in the emotions and visual splendor of Zoetic’s choreography.

I’ve always admired the athleticism and skill of Zoetic’s dancers, but this time they touched a nerve. Longing, loving, rapture, and agony all threaten to tear us in different directions. Which way should we go? When do we stop fighting and let things come undone, if that is the course we must take? Love of self battles the need to have someone love us. We all want someone to notice if we come home late. But a bad relationship can eat us alive. What is our breaking point?

Dodge & Burn is a series of photo essays documenting local culture with a focus on artful imagery, movement, and light. Check BURNAWAY’s homepage for new photography every Thursday, and watch our Flickr account for regular updates!
