BURNAWAY would like to send congratulatory shout-outs to each of this year’s Working Artist Project award winners: Micah Stansell, Alan Caomin Xie, and Katherine Mitchell!
The Working Artist Project is a program of the Museum of Contemporary Art of Georgia (MOCA GA) designed to support established visual artists who live in the metro Atlanta area. The three winners will be given solo exhibitions at MOCA GA, the help of studio assistants, and a stipend.
The program is funded by a grant from The Charles Loridans Foundation and from the National Endowment for the Arts. Past winners include Larry Walker, Don Cooper, Danielle Roney, Matt Haffner, Marcia R. Cohen, and Maria Artemis.
Micah Stansell’s Presynaptic Potential debuted at Le Flash last year with high praise from the art community. He received a MFA from Georgia State University in Digital Filmmaking. He currently has an exhibition at Whitespace with his wife Whitney Stansell, Past. Perfect. Continuous., that runs through May 15.
Alan Caomin Xie currently serves as head of the art program at Clayton State University. Originally from China, he received a BFA from the China Academy of Art in sculpture and a MFA from the Savannah College of Art and Design in painting. He has exhibited widely in the United States and China.
Katherine Mitchell has been a staple in the Atlanta arts scene for many years. A retired professor from the Visual Arts Department at Emory University, she had a solo exhibition at Sandler Hudson Gallery earlier this year, Correspondences, Conversations and Texts.
