I met Charles Nelson when he taught at the Lamar Dodd School of Art as a visiting professor. He was a man of immense dignity and deep purpose. We will miss his patient thoughtfulness and faithfulness to his calling as an artist. He left at the pinnacle of his achievements and we will never forget him.

WOw can someone catch me as I come around this cyclone of grief….Charles was Chuck, Chucky(hated it). Charles was the man of my dreams (I was 10). Charles was one of the most important people in my life( late teen, early twenties). Charles..Charles who… without Jimmy and Kyle? What was St.James? What were friends that you could actually say you had know since early grade school (even went through puberty with?) Chuck, Charles, Chucky…..CHARLES NELSON IS MY FRIEND!. I resent liFE, growning older, joining the military, his life progression only to find what time and living had hid from me to find such a ugly kick in the crouch….Charles, Jimmy, Kyle, St. James, HSPVA…Aspects of life that were not ment to change beyond career, spouse, kids, mid life crisis. What do I do? I never expected this…I was looking forward to pictures of the family, tales of work and life. I have only grief and and longing. Longing for the boy I thought would be my friend until the end of time. I see Kyle on FB, Jimmy Barron (James) is still lost. I want the boys I went to St.James with. I want the boys that were the first boys to be my best friend outside of my family. I WANT CHARLES BACK JUST SO I CAN CATCH UP! I WANT CHARLES BACK SO WE (ME,HIM, JIMMY, AND KYLE) CAN SIT AROUND TALKING SHIT AS ONLY WE COULD DO! I never ask for anything, I never want anything, I just want my friends back.

PLEASE? THATS NOT ASKING FOR MUCH IS IT?

Charles was a great man, father, husband and friend. Tonia and Charles found in each other what others only wish for. I am saddened that a man that became my friend when I met him through his wife. She is one of my closest friends as well as Charles. Time waits for no one and our tomorrows aren’t promised. The world is a sad place with one less angel in it.
